The XC60 is a premium crossover from Volvo. Comfortable and practical, the XC60 may be the safest vehicle Volvo has ever built. It includes many safety features, and paired with its good looks and dynamic styling makes it immediately recognizable as a Volvo.The front-wheel drive XC60 is powered by either a 240-hp 3.2-liter inline-six-cylinder, or 230-hp 3.2-liter PZEV engine. The "Instant Traction" all-wheel drive XC60 is offered with the same engine choices as the front-wheel drive, but can also be ordered with a 300-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, and even a new 325-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, depending on the trim level. All engine variations are matched with a Geartronic six-speed automatic transmission. One impressive standard safety feature is "City Safety" which reacts at low speed to help prevent or reduce rear-end collisions by allowing the XC60 to automatically self brake to a complete stop without driver input. Other standard features include electronic stability with roll control, trailer stability assist, six airbags, and four-wheel anti-lock brakes. Depending on the trim level other standard features include leather seating, keyless drive, a panoramic roof, active bi-xenon headlamps, and park assist.The 2013 Volvo XC60 is now standard with a windshield rain sensor, and headlight washers. The previous 17" alloy wheels have been upgraded to 18" alloys. A new feature called Tunnel Detection automatically turns on or off the headlights is now standard. Also, Active High Beam, and Road Sign Information (RSI), which can display traffic speed signs to the drive, is offered in the optional Technology Package.

As Arrival Vehicles go, this one gives the fashionistas something to look at: a high-waisted shape that flares dramatically as it sweeps back to huge sculptural taillights. Better yet, this visual entertainment takes place without encroaching on the capacity within.

Comparison

We rated rear-seat comfort equal to that of the Audi and the Lexus at the top of the group, cargo space topped them all in our beer-case test, and the lightweight liftgate swung so easily that power assist would have been superfluous.

The XC60's dramatic front end and rising beltline create a rakish, aggressive stance, while the deep draw of its shoulderline, and striking, high-visibility taillights make for one delicious posterior. Inside, the deeply grained leather panels, floating center stack, and classy control layout (including steering-wheel-mounted navigation controls and a remote control for the passengers) draw raves from our judges.

Comparison

Where did all this go come from? Engine pulls really hard; perhaps not as smooth as the others, but the power is really compelling.
